Standard.site: the Publishing Gateway • Steve Simkins

my notes ( ? )

A POSSE-oriented publisher "discovered Standard.site, a new set of lexicons designed especially for publishing ... [with] canonical URLs that point to my site... a journey that significantly boosted my knowledge of ATProto and how Standard.site could be a new gateway for publishing content"

It gets a bit technical as he builds his new site using Standard.site and ATproto lexicons, which he knew nothing of, but is serves as a good intro: "Standard.site has two primary lexicons: document for the actual content, and publication for the source of the document... I simply needed to create an initial publication record with my website info and then reference it in each document... You can also add other fields ... as long as the original and required fields are met, making it very flexible."

A good example of this: for replies, he built "a lexicon on top of Standard.site: site.standard.document.comment", then discovered how to display replies made to his posts from users across the ATmosphere via a fork of Tap.

"Within a week, my site had actually turned ATProto into a CMS. I could make posts, update them, or delete them, and all the while these updates are broadcasted to a network that anyone could index. It was like an RSS feed that because it met a standard could be aggregated with a single tool."

One challenge - competing lexicons: "If there are other competing standards ... you will have issues getting everyone on the same page... [but] there’s nothing stopping anyone from taking the same piece of content and creating multiple records to meet multiple standards to get as much attention as possible."
